About Us
About Us
Our Mission
To provide support for older LGBTQ+ seniors in the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area through advocacy, social programs, education, support groups, and resource distribution. We counter isolation, fear, and loneliness by creating a caring community of LGBTQ+ elders who will look out for each other and share some laughs.
Our Vision
We envision a thriving community of older LGBTQ+ seniors with access to resources and support to meet their social, advocacy, educational, and health needs in the Albuquerque metropolitan area.
Our Story
We first began as SAGE Albuquerque in 2013, as a local affiliate to the Sage National Organization. In 2022, we adopted the new name Older Rainbow Community of Albuquerque (ORCA) and became a local partner to the newly organized SAGECollab and we are affiliated with SAGE-USA. ORCA is partnered with and fiscally sponsored by Equality New Mexico (EQNM), one of the state’s oldest and largest LGBTQ advocacy nonprofits.
Our Team
ORCA is a volunteer-based organization that is directly guided by a Steering Committee (SCORCA) leadership team. ORCA events and social gatherings are organized and hosted by volunteers. ORCA contracts facilitators and local advocates for training and other professional outreach and advocacy services. Come to the ORCA monthly meeting and meet the SCORCA members and other volunteers that make up ORCA.
Our Charter
The Older Rainbow Community of Albuquerque’s Charter is a formal document that outlines ORCA’s organization’s mission, structure, and operating principles.
